- Introduction
Welcome to LightStars Academy. These Terms and
Conditions govern your use of our platform (the “Platform”), which offers
online high school courses, both through LightStars instructors and teachers
from partner schools. By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to be bound
by these terms.
If you do not agree to these Terms and Conditions, you may
not use the Platform.
- Definitions
- “Platform”
refers to the website and services provided by LightStars Academy.
- “Courses”
refer to the educational content and lessons offered through the Platform.
- “Instructors”
refer to educators who create, manage, and upload content for courses.
- “Users”
refer to all individuals, including students, parents, instructors, and
school administrators, accessing the Platform.
- “We,”
“us,” or “our” refers to LightStars Academy.
Account Registration
- Eligibility:
Users must be at least 13 years old to create an account on the Platform.
If you are under the age of 18, you must have parental consent to use the
Platform.
- Account
Creation: When creating an account, you agree to provide accurate,
current, and complete information. You are responsible for maintaining the
confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that
occur under your account.
- Account
Approval: Only instructors pre-approved by LightStars Academy can
upload and manage course content. Schools may also register their own
instructors, subject to approval by LightStars Academy.
- Use
of the Platform
- Permitted
Use: The Platform is provided solely for educational purposes. You may
use the Platform to view and engage with courses, communicate with
instructors, and complete coursework.
- Prohibited
Use: Users may not:
- Misuse
the Platform or access it for purposes other than those intended.
- Distribute
viruses, malware, or other harmful software.
- Infringe
on the intellectual property rights of LightStars Academy or third
parties.
- Engage
in behavior that is harassing, abusive, or otherwise harmful to
instructors or other users.
- Course
Enrollment and Access
- Course
Offerings: LightStars Academy offers a range of courses designed for
high school students. Participating schools may upload their own courses
to the Platform.
- Enrollment:
Students may enroll in courses directly through the Platform. Course fees,
if applicable, will be clearly stated prior to enrollment.
- Access:
Once enrolled, students will have access to course materials for the
duration of the course. We do not guarantee that course materials will be
available indefinitely.
- Payments
and Fees
- Subscription
Fees: A general subscription fee of $3.49 monthly is required of
students to cover storage and maintenance of your images, videos, etc.
- Refund
Policy: Refunds may be granted at the discretion of LightStars Academy
within 7 days of purchase if a course has not been started. Refunds are
not available for completed courses or for monthly subscription fees.
- Instructor
Content
- Ownership
of Content: Instructors retain ownership of the courses and content
they create and upload to the Platform.
- Licensing
to LightStars Academy: By uploading content, instructors grant
LightStars Academy a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, distribute,
and display their content on the Platform.
- Content
Standards: Instructors are responsible for ensuring that the content
they upload is accurate, does not infringe on the rights of others, and
complies with all applicable laws.
- Intellectual
Property
- All
intellectual property rights related to the Platform, including its
design, layout, and content (excluding user-generated content), are owned
by LightStars Academy.
- Users
may not copy, distribute, or modify any part of the Platform without our
express written permission.
- Privacy
- Your
privacy is important to us. Please refer to our Privacy Policy
(https://lightstars.org/privacy-policy) for details on how we collect,
use, and protect your information.
- Termination
- We
reserve the right to terminate or suspend your account at any time,
without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms and Conditions
or engaged in illegal or harmful behavior on the Platform.
- You
may terminate your account at any time by contacting support.
- Limitation
of Liability
- No
Guarantee: While we strive to ensure that the courses and content on
the Platform are accurate and up-to-date, LightStars Academy makes no
warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, or quality of the
content.
- Limitation
of Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by law, LightStars
Academy is not liable for any damages arising from your use of the
Platform, including but not limited to, damages for loss of data or
profits.
- Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LightStars Academy,
its affiliates, its independent contractors
and employees from any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your use of
the Platform or your violation of these Terms and Conditions.
- Modifications
We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time.
If significant changes are made, we will notify users by email or through a
notification on the Platform. Your continued use of the Platform after any
changes signifies your acceptance of the updated terms.
Governing
Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in
accordance with the laws of the state of Colorado, without regard to its
conflict of law principles.
